Gravure Printing for PE Bags

Gravure printing (also known as rotogravure printing) is a modern, fully automated printing method. This technique uses an intaglio printing process, where the elements to be printed (text, images) are etched into the surface of a copper-plated cylinder, typically about 100 micrometres thick.

Currently, there are many choices for rotogravure printing machines: single-color, two-color, three-color, four-color, up to seven or eight-color machines. Gravure printing on PE bags is a popular method today, largely due to its operating principle, which results in high precision prints.

Here’s how it works: The printing elements are etched into the metal surface of the copper cylinder. Ink is then supplied to these etched depressions. A specialized doctor blade removes any excess ink from the non-etched areas, leaving ink only in the recessed parts of the mold. Finally, printing pressure transfers the ink from these recessed molds onto the surface of the item being printed.
